Hayfever, which is sometimes referred to as seasonal allergic rhinitis, is a common allergy which currently affects around twenty percent of the UK population. The allergy is caused by particles of grass and hay that are present in the air particularly during the warmer season. These airborne particles are then inhaled by the sufferer which will cause an allergic reaction in their upper respiratory passages. Hayfever is most common during spring and summer and depending on the particular pollens you are allergic to will depend on when when the illness will occur. During the months of March, April and May, flowers are usually in bloom and producing pollen, this is predominantly the worst time of year for a hayfever sufferer.
